Beer Label Design
This project was created through a collaboration between Java House Coffee Roasters and Backpocket Brewery. Java House supplied the cold brew used by Backpocket to craft their caramel coffee stout, combining the flavors of locally roasted coffee with locally brewed beer. The finished product was sold and distributed through Backpocket’s network.
Project Overview
This project involved designing a collaborative beer can for a partnership between Java House Coffee Roasters and Backpocket Brewery. The goal was to create packaging that visually represented both brands while celebrating the unique combination of coffee and craft beer.
Design Approach
A key priority was ensuring that both brand identities were clearly reflected in the design. Using the logos provided by Backpocket, I found that their vintage “B” mark paired naturally with Java House’s vintage face logo. With some adjustments, I modified the coffee cup in the Java House logo to resemble a beer glass, creating a playful visual link between the two brands.
Visual Elements
To reinforce the collaboration, the background incorporates illustrations of coffee plants and wheat, referencing the core ingredients and origins of both coffee and beer. I also wrote the copy featured on the side of the can, which explains the partnership and provides tasting notes for the caramel coffee stout.
Collaboration & Production
The initial design development was completed independently, followed by several rounds of edits and approvals with the Backpocket team to ensure the final design aligned with both brands. Once approved, the final artwork was delivered to Backpocket for production and printing.
Outcome
The finished can design successfully blends elements from both brands while highlighting the unique collaboration, resulting in a product that feels cohesive, recognizable, and true to the identities of both companies.
